Accelerating Space Science with Nuclear Technology

e are on the cusp of a new era of breakthroughs regarding the cosmos and our place within it. With new space telescopes like the James Webb and soon to be launched missions to the outer solar system like the Europa Clipper, our assumptions are being challenged and new vistas are opening. However, the investments we make today in new technologies will decide the pace at which future discoveries and insights can be achieved. The accelerating space science with nuclear technology is intended to be the first in a series of convenings from the Institute for Space Science and Development looking at pivotal enabling technologies that will allow us to learn and progress faster as we seek to understand the universe and expand humanity’s presence in space. We hope the insights from this report will inspire the ecosystem of appropriators, policy makers, investors, philanthropists, scientists, engineers, and citizens to consider how their resources and time can be used to allow us to use nuclear power and propulsion technology to be even bolder in our space science agenda.
